Lunch bags for Habitat for Humanity
Mission accomplished!
Thank you to all the parents and girls that made possible our Lent project to feed the hungry and quench the thirsty! We made 30 lunch bags for the Aggies for Christ volunteers who devote their weekends to build homes for families in need.
The girls worked diligently to decorate lunch bags with thank you notes, quotes and designs. The next morning they put together 30 bags with one sandwich (choices of ham, chicken breast with cheese, lettuce and tomatoes, mayo and mustard), fruits, pringles, muffin, napkin and a thank you note. We delivered the lunch bags before noon, blessed the food and prayed together with the volunteers. After lunch, we had an opportunity to visit the site, meet the future owner and learn about Habitat for Humanity.
Special thanks to all the families that donated the food, including a large bag of apples, the loaves of bread, lettuce, mayo, packages of ham and cheese, tangerines, pringles, drinks and water bottles and the $25 check. For dessert, there were plenty cheese cake bites and muffins baked by the Challenge girls that were able to join us in the morning.
Please give your self a spiritual pat on the back, as this was a wonderful work of mercy that filled the hearts of many brothers and sisters with gratitude, and gave our daughters a small taste of the happiness brought forth from charity in action.
Thank you!

St. Agnes Day at the Skating Rink we were all winners!
We had a lot of fun learning about St. Agnes at the decorating contest and skating with our friends! We discovered that with Jesus we always win!
Our biggest surprise were the little lamb's hats that the team leaders made for us! The girls worked in teams of three to decorate cupcakes and build a symbol of St. Agnes using only grahm crackers, peanut butter, icing, and assorted sweets and candies. The girls were judged and after a whispered meeting, the girls were all awarded first prize in different categories! Then after we finished the competition, we headed out onto the rink and skated like there was no tomorrow! We came back and had pizza and snacks together before cleaning up and heading out. The girls really looked like a flock with their hats and a certain team leader wearing and shepherd dog hat ;) Overall, it was a fun and team-building experience for all the girls!

March 9, 2012 - A Friday of Lent with St. Marie Eugenie
Our Theme of today was about how we can be joyful always and when we have problems, sufferings and difficulties (in other words, challenges) when we pray for and develop the virtue of JOY.
Our Saint of the Month, St. Marie Eugenie is a great example of the virtue of Joy! St Marie Eugenie is not very well known but her life is very inspiring, especially to us today. She was born in 1817 and grew up in a castle near Paris. Her family did not believe in God and they were very wealthy (hence, the castle…)
She often accompanied her mother visiting poor families, but her mother died when she was 15 years old. It was at this moment in her life, when she was 15 that she had a conversion, searching for God and trying to find meaning to all of her suffering. She went on a retreat and made sense of her life in the presence of God.
Reading her life story, you would never think that she lived almost 200 years ago. We are faced with so many of the same situations today (maybe not living in castles, but everything else could be applied.) In a time of economic instability, and difficult family situations, she can help each one of us and the girls to see that you can make the best out of any situation and find God. She converted when she was 15 at a retreat and it changed her life forever. Camps and retreats can be these life changing experiences for the girls in our clubs. The whole goal of these activities is to spark an experience with God through prayer and faith building activities.
When Marie Eugenie was only 22 years old she founded the Religious of the Assumption. She died at the age of 80 in 1898 having founded 30 schools in 9 countries. She was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007. Today her work lives on with over 1200 sisters in 34 countries around the world educating children and families in the faith.
"Each of us has a mission on earth. It is simply a question of seeing how God can use us to make his Gospel known and lived". – St. Marie Eugenie
We played a very fun game about the virtues we see in our Challenge Club friends and to welcome our guest visiting Challenge for the first time. We talked about growing closer in friendship with Christ by doing good deeds and receiving the joy of Christ when we do His will. To finish the night, we made the craft of St. Therese's Good Deeds beads. We will be carrying it and hiding it in our pockets and for every good deed we do, we will shift one bead to the other side, just as St. Therese of the Little Flower did when she was still very little. We will offer each good deed as a fragrance for Christ in the secrets of our hearts.
“A joyful heart is the normal result of a heart burning with love. Joy is contagious. We may not be able to give much, but we can always give the joy that springs from a heart filled with love.” – Mother Theresa

February 17: Service Apostolate at the Featured Event with Ventriloquist Jerry Breeden
This Friday we had a lot of fun serving at the Featured Event with ventriloquist Jerry Breeden. We were in charge of the concessions. We had a great variety of cookies, brownies, muffins, cupcakes, popcorn, soft drinks and candies to choose from. We did an inventory of all the delicious baking goods and learned to use the cash register. And we got to watch the show and have a great time! We took a picture with Father Uche and he thought us how to pronounce his last name correctly. Thank you so much to Mrs. Harris from CDC for this great opportunity to serve and to have fun and thank you so much for all the popcorn and goodies we got to take with us!

February 5th: Ice Skating Party in honor of St. Agnes
Last Sunday we had a party in honor of St. Agnes of Rome at the Ice Skating Rink! our Aggie group leader gave us the presentation of the life of St.Agnes and then we did a cup cake decorating contest (with a variety of cup cakes made by our own very creative team leaders!) to tell her life (and symbols like the lamb, the fire, the palm, etc) we had prizes and pizza, hot chocolate, lemonade and lots of cup cakes!
At the end,we received our Sacred Heart of Jesus box wrapped as a beautiful gift with a surprise inside! it had our St. Agnes' card, a beautiful heart made of fantasy jewelry and at the bottom of the box it had these words inscribed: "My heart belongs to Jesus" and what was most special was a blessed card by the Pope of our Lady of Lourdes with Saint Bernadette praying to our Lady with the Angel's prayer on the back. Our group leader brought these cards from Lourdes France and received the blessing of Pope Benedict XVI during the World Youth Day in Spain last summer!
Then we put our skates and headed to the rink! we had a wonderful time celebrating our friendship and God's love for each one of us! Thank you Jesus!

We don't get to take our boxes home today because there is something special that the team leaders will hide inside and they will bring them to the Saint Agnes' party on Sunday because it will be very special and dedicated to St. Agnes. I can't wait :)!

First Meeting of 2012 - Happy New Year!
Dear Challenge Club members, families and friends! We hope you had a very blessed Christmas and we pray for many many blessings for this coming year!
We had our first meeting of the year and this time we entrusted ourselves to our saint of the month: Saint Andre Bessette! we played a scanvenger hunt to learn more about him, talked about his life about his kindness and how he so humbly with great love and faith was able to build a beautiful Oratory for St. Joseph!
Brother Andre's kindness is so inspiring! and since every virtue needs to be practiced to grow, we did our first project of the year, to share God's kindness with the littlest of all God's children (the babies!) and we wrapped baby hats and blankets for Project Gabriel and The Good Samaritan. They were so happy when they received them! they were wrapped with lots of love and we made cards to tell the babies how much God loves them and will love them forever!
Special thanks to Mariana's mom for making the baby hats and the blankets they are so beautiful! thank you!
Then we made real s'mores to celebrate a job well done and the sweetness of good deeds!
Brother Andre, pray for us to grow in kindness like you every day through the year - Amen!

Thanksgiving Mission
Success! We completed our Thanksgiving mission; 55 planes took off from the local Postal Office to distribute loads of gratitude and Thanksgiving blessings all around the city!
All planes passed the quality tests (with a little bit of tweaking) and the team leaders got to the task of preparing them for special delivery.
The next morning, we took the planes to the Chapel to be blessed by Jesus before sending them. Now, can you imagine all the people that received the planes you made with all these blessings? Awesome! Let's keep praying so that lots of blessings keep blossoming all around us.

October 20: A Glowing Faith - Making Flourescent Trees
Today we will be talking about Jesus' awesome invitation to have a faith of the size of a mustard seed to move mountains. and to remind us of this unique, special, and super powerful invitation, we will make fluorescent trees out of prayers. The more prayers you do, the more your tree will glow! see you there! Thanks and God Bless!

October 14: Turning a banana into a doggie
Today we talked about food and about remembering to say thank you to Jesus and praying for others that don't have all the things we have received from God. We got together for snacks while we played and sang Pocahontas' songs and then we learned something really cool! to turn a banana into a doggie! We also watched a photo gallery about women in Mexico making beautiful pottery and how they were very grateful for all the blessings they received through the fruits of their hard work. We got to talk about the food drive we will be doing for Hallows' Eve and about asking the Saints like St. Vincent and St. Francis to walk with us during the food drive.
Thank you, God Bless and until next time!

October 8: Floating Rosary Rally
This morning, the Challenge Club team leaders and families got up really early in the morning to make a floating Rosary out of helium balloons. We had been reviewing every single detail for the whole week and we were awaiting this day with great anticipation! Thanks to all the helpers that came to help us! It was awesome because each balloon was like a prayer waiting to fly to Mary, and because a lot of people got together to pray the Rosary for Life and for all the unborn babies! The girls from St. Joseph's Challenge Club saved the day because they came to help us transport the 53 balloons and the cross made out of twenty-something bright yellow balloons to the grassy field in front of PP. God treated us with an awesome morning a beautiful statue of Mary reminding us of her infinite beauty and motherly presence in our midst. It was a great day! Thank you Jesus, Thank you Mary! God Bless and until next time!
Second Meeting: October 7: Our Lady of the Rosary
Today is the feast of our Lady of the Rosary. To celebrate, we received very special Rosaries that shine at night and that were blessed with water from Lourdes, France (where Mary appeared to St. Bernadette), and an image of our Lady of the Rosary with how to pray the Rosary on the back, then we talked about miracles that happened to people that prayed the Rosary, like the battle of Lepanto and the small house in Japan where they were praying the Rosary that was the only house that was not destroyed when the atomic bomb exploded and many others! God is awesome! and Mary really likes to help us! We also learned that Mary is asking us to pray the Rosary daily for the peace of the world. We went to the Chapel to pray one Mystery of the Rosary and then we came back and played with balloons and learned about the Floating Rosary project. So cool! We made our own helium balloon and got to write things like "Lady of the Victory, Pray for us!". We had grapes, Cheetos and lemonade for snack. Thanks, God Bless and until next time!
